[imp] Why would dimp be slower to generate message list than imp?

In case you are using Cyrus with squatter or any other IMAP server  
that supports indexing, this would explain what you see. Often changed  
mailboxes have soon to be outdated indexes, while archive folders can  
read the whole listing from the index quickly.
