[ansel] jpeg problems

Well, I give up. I have searched the internet over and just can't seem  
to find a solution to my problem.

Ansel will not work on my computer. If I take pictures in jpeg format  
with my canon 7D, ansel will upload to about the 91% marke and then  
give me an error message that says "not a valid, supported image file."

If I take the picture with my old palm-pre, it will sucessfully upload  
the picture, but not create a thumbnail. I also get the error 'HORDE:  
[ansel] Unable to load SQL data. [pid 31060 on line 415 of  
"horde/ansel/lib/Image.php"]'

Using the Imagick PECL library gives me the error: 'HORDE: [ansel]  
JPEG datastream contains no image `' @ jpeg.c/EmitMessage/233 [pid  
31063 on line 96 of "/usr/share/pear/Horde/Image/Imagick.php"]'  
whenever I try to view an image (no image is displayed, just the  
filename.)

Using the ImageMagick binary gives the error: 'HORDE: [ansel] Error

Using the gd library gives the error: 'HORDE: [ansel]  
imagecreatefromstring(): Couldn't create GD Image Stream out of Data  
[pid 31062 on line 787 of "/usr/share/pear/Horde/Image/Gd.php"]'

I found on the Internet the ini variable "gd.jpeg_ignor_warning = 1"  
and placed in in /etc/php.ini, but it doesn't change the errors.

Any ideas on whats going on?
