Maybe it is a better idea to keep my current patch pretty much as is, and
use the current WebDAV implementation as a basis for CalDAV support, where a
calendar is a collection and events are single resources. This would make it
possible to use both clients that only support iCal over WebDAV and not
(yet) CalDAV.
