I switched back from gnupg 2.0.3 to gnupg 1.4.7 and see the same
behavior.

Generating a new private key with 1.4.7 works just fine, but displaying a
pgp/gpg signed message with 2.03 or 1.4.7 does not work (causes the hang).
I even went down to "1" for the timeout for the pgp keyserver.
