I'm not seeing this behavior.
IIRC, there is no expected return value when issuing a SENDMAIL
command, unless there is an error, so there should be something in
your logs to indicate what is going on. At the very least, I would
need to see the synclog for a failed SENDMAIL request. You should also
check the webserver error log and/or the horde log.
