[dev] random DB error

Using Horde from CVS, I am coding a small application. Every now and 
then I get a fatal database error:

DB Error: connect failed:  [nativecode=Link to server lost, unable to 
reconnect]

It happens on a random page, there is no consistency, it just happens. 
My connection to the mysql server has had no problems thus far. I keep a 
connection to Mysql where I tryout queries and I never experience 
connection problems.

Is it possible that this error is caused by something else than the DB ?
