We all seem to agree that there should to be a visual distinction between
expandable labels and links to applications. I would go a step further and ask
that the distinction be visible on rendering the sidebar, not during an action
(mouse-over). My concern is that the change on mouse-over might not register
until the mouse button is clicked. If my mind has told me that clicking on a
certain label will expand its sub-menu, I'm going to move the mouse cursor to
it and click, without waiting for the cursor change to register. On the other
hand, if I can see before I even move the mouse that clicking the label will
take me to an application, I'll know ahead of time to click the "+" icon in
front of it. I don't, however, know how to best do that. A different
foreground and/or background color for labels vs. links, maybe? I'm not
sure...

Does this make sense?
