That's how Linux works, I'm fairly certain that Solaris _doesn't_ work that way,
and I don't know about other problems.

My main concern, though, is that this is getting pretty far afield of IMP. It's
a completely optional component, and getting into esoterica of how to install it
is asking to be supporting things that we simply can't support, IMHO...
