Preferences not working with updated PEAR

hiya! 

i'm having problems with Horde/IMP not saving preferences via sql. i've slogged 
through the lists and foud a few things stating that an updated PEAR.php from 
cvs would fix it, but i've had no such luck. 

i added the conf/params/protocol = unix with no luck as well. 

i do know that the sql info is correct, but can't figure this one out. 

i'm running FreeBSD 4.3, Apache 1.3.20, PHP 4.0.6, Horde-cvs, and IMP-cvs, 
updated as of yesterday.
