Hi,

if you cannot remember setting the root pw for mysql you probably never 
did ;)
Well, if you didn't, you should do it now!

Have a look at : http://www.mysql.com/doc/D/e/Default_privileges.html
This will tell you how.
After finishing this you should be able to connect to mysql as user root 
with the password YOU chose.
