Hi regarding this problem ...
people can do:

/* If we fail to register the cache, continue on without it. */
                if (@!session_register('prefs_cache')) {
                    unset($prefs_cache);
                    $caching = false;
                }

to prevent the error to be displayed ...
no pretty but works for now ...

Definitely not. We had this problem regularly on Horde 2.0/IMP 3.0 so you
should try an upgrade if you run these versions.

It still happens occasionally with the recent versions but no one was able
to track it down so far.
