I have not done that, BUT
- you can use other DB, not same as in old horde and test yours installation on
that database
- You can (not sure) test installation (and database conversion) on other
server, just move DB on it (there is contrib-section on hordes homepages, which
has ready perl scripts to convert old horde -> new horde and turba)

And once again. I HAVE NOT TESTED UPGRADING.

(Could you please write something to posting list after succesfull upgrading :)
I have 1 system to upgrade too :)
