Thank you very much for your reply. This is what i did still could not complie imap with php.

1. downloaded copy of c-client lib -> imap-2002a.tar.Z
2. untared in /root/imap-2002a
3. made successful make ( make slx )
4. copied c-client.a to /usr/local/lib/ as libc-client.a 
5. copied the following files from /root/imap-2002a/c-client directory to /usr/local/include dir

c-client.h
imap4r1.h
rfc822.h
mail.h
linkage.h
env.h
env_unix.h
fs.h
ftl.h
misc.h
nntp.h
nl.h
osdep.h
smtp.h
tcp.h


6. configured php as below

./configured --prefix=/wwwroot/php --with-apxs2=/wwwroot/bin/apxs --with-config-file-path=/wwwroot/php --with-mysql --with-gettext --with-mcrypt --with-xml --with-imap=/root/imap-2002a --enable-ftp

my compile fails.

You must have the c-client lib installed first. It is not distributed in 
downloadable version of Slackware 8.1. Lets have a look at 
http://www.php.net/manual/en/ref.imap.php

All you need to know is explained in the 'Requirements' section.
