I use this combo: qmail+vpopmail + horde/imp on another machine.
I had some prbs but all of them beacuse of bad configuring (horde/imp i mean)

I just got it from CVS, RTFM (INSTALL files in this case), 
than asked myself what went wrong. 
Then got to RTFM again ... and reconfigured a lot ... and NOW IT WORK JUST 
FINE!!!
