if you don't like the sidebar and only ever use one horde app (eg. IMP) 
then you can set a preference so that it doesn't appear. Click 'Options' 
then 'Display Options' then uncheck the box marked 'Show the Horde Menu on 
the left?'. You can make this a default by setting the same value to 
'false' in prefs.php.

If you do that you'd want to make sure you set your default application to 
'Mail' too.
