Additionally, there have been numerous discussions on the mailing lists 
in the immediate past dealing with this issue.  Search the list 
archives for more tips, and always make sure to read docs/PERFORMANCE.  
In short: Horde 3/IMP 4 does require more processing power for the 
simple reason that it provides (much) more functionality and handles 
cases/errors/data/etc. much more robustly than previous versions.  The 
trade off is more code and more processing power.  But it doesn't 
require *that* much more, and in many cases, the new versions are 
faster than the old counterparts (due to things like caching, 
optimizations, etc.).  You need to find the exact culprit (is your SQL 
server the reason for the load? if so, there are things you can do to 
ease this.  the IMAP server?)
