[horde] Why not pear?

Hi, one of the things that I find irritating when upgrading horde is 
that I have to download the tarballs and set them up manually.

Therefore I ask: Why do you not distribute your applications using a 
pear channel?

In my experience with other php applications (MidCOM, Phing or Propel 
for example) this is a very nice and efficient way to keep php 
applications up to date.

I guess you got your reasons, so I wonder what they are.
