Of course, it'll work with any backend, but then every backend
does its own thing -- and all those things are different. So you
will wish to choose a backend matching your requirements.

Again, that means that only 1 user can log in, at all.

If you want several different users to use the system,
you will have to provide a list (or database) of possible
user-ids; there are different authentication backends
available for various implementations of such lists, or
databases.
