[horde] Graphical emoticons

Hello Everybody
My website provider uses Horde Webmail which is great.
Now I really would like to have "graphical emoticons" and I saw that the horde webmail includes those. Therefore I asked my website provider to add them. But he says, I would have to do it myself.
Kind of  lost here as I do not just want to install a new webmail on the server, scared I could loose all my kept mail.
Is there a chance I can only install the 'graphical emoticons'?
If not, how would I have to install the webmail software?
