[horde] Https response time painfully slow on Horde

Hello people,

OK, another one. Started testing my horde installation in the real
world.
The way it is configured is for the horde box (smtp/pop3/imap/horde) to
be living inside the DMZ and serve the useres inside the LAN via https.

I noticed that it takes a long time to open up a message. So for example,
if a user goes ahead and opens up a browser window to access horde :

1. It takes a long time to show the log-in page
2. Once logged-in, if he/she chooses to view a message, from the moment
he/she will click on it to the moment he/she will actually see its contents,
takes about 40 seconds.

Does anyone have any idea about this ?

H/W / OS Config :

Compaq Proliant ML370 with UW320 SCSI controller
CentOS 5.4
Horde Webmail Edition v3.3.6

TIA,

s.
