i assume that suhosin (don't use it byself) will catch the task and stop it as 
overflows could be a secyurity relevant violation.

As far as you have no prob with your hardware (i.e. RAM) it could have 
different possible reasons why a segfault is raised - i.e. if different data / 
vars are processed or in different timing scenarios (especially in 
multitasking environments). 

some small recommendations to find the source / solution:

- If you have not the option to check (or change) your RAM you might try a 
copy of the system installation on another machine / virtual machine 
environtment if the segfault persists.

- Another way might be to build a apache, php and required modules byself - 
i.e. within another path / prefix or within a chroot - on the same machine for 
testing puproses and try to reproduce the segfault with a copy of your php 
software (i.e. horde).
