on centos 6 :
- libxml2-2.7.6-1.el6
- php-5.3.8-5.el6.remi

on centos 5.6 :
- php-5.3.8-1.el5.remi
- libxml2-2.7.8-1.src.rpm

Hum, I don't remember where I got the source rpm from, but I  
definitely rebuild a more up to date version of libxml2.
I remember having trouble with libxml as well on centos 5.x and the  
only way out what to use the latest stable version available at the  
time (early 2011).
