Carddav should be the better choice, its standard
( also caldav )

active sync is by microsoft

so you never know what will happen to it


for mail imap idle and its comming extensions will be also good as
active sync

but it depends on your general setup, if your heavy using microsoft
systems and smartphones use active sync, if doing mostly apple use
card/caldav, if isp best way serve them both ( and live with problems *g )


But i am with you ,most importend, that "some" sync works

In my eyes , the most problem is Thunderbird/lightning for now, on one
hand it runs on linux/windows/apple so its ideal as standard client in
isp setup, but its development is slow sometimes and sometimes focused
in wrong directions, but thats an another discussion.

Thx to Horde developers  in trying solve problems with all sync stuff in
one application/framework
