If you installed qmail correctly, you don't need to make any changes,
since it installs a sendmail wrapper (normally in /usr/sbin/sendmail).
Use that with IMP.

qmail only comes with a POP3 server.  Check out 
http://www.inter7.com/courierimap for a good Maildir only IMAP 
server that integrates pretty well with qmail.
