problem with mysql

Hi,

maybe it's not exactly an IMP problem, but I'd like to know if someone
else have had the same problem. Here is the story.

We recently move our IMP installation to a bigger UNIX box. The specs are
SGI IRIX 6.5
PHP 4.03pl1
mysql 3.22.32
Apache 1.3.14
Horde 1.2.3/IMP 2.2.3

The first time we got a problem was when the pages of IMP started to
show the 'too many connections' error. I checked Apache status and the
servers had climbed well over 100. mysqladmin showed there were 101
connections opened. So after having search here and elsewere for this
problem I push 'max_connections' on mysql to 256.

Now, there is no 'too many connections' anymore, but IMP (I don't really
know if it is Apache, PHP or mysql) begin to stop to respond at some
times. When it does this, the only thing is to restart both mysql and
Apache. It seems mysql connections keep opening but stop to serve
requests. I can view status with mysqladmin but 'flush tables' doesn't
work: it just stall.

Last thing I did was push table_cache to 150 and max_connections to 300.
I also made a scritp to restart automatically but I would prefer to
know what's going on.

Previoulsy we had a working installation of Horde/Imp 2.2 on a small UNIX
box. The components were then:

SGI IRIX 6.5
PHP 4.02
mysql 3.22.32
Apache 1.3.12
Horde 1.2.2/Imp 2.2.

The load was sometimes pretty high but it was the only problem.

------

Well it seems to be a Mysql problem but why only now?
Any idea?

Thanks.
