Chuck, I don't know if this helps, but I just tested this with Mozilla
0.7 on W2Ksp1. When I click on the "download.php" link, Mozilla says
"You are about to download a file ot type application/x-unknown-image-gif"
and asks me if I want to save or open with another application.
When I follow the "link.html" hyperlink, I get the page with the
"download" link, and when I click on it Mozilla says
"This file has mime type image/gif and cannot be viewed using Mozilla.
You can open it with another application or save it to disk."
