Except that if you DID want to delete all the messages in the INBOX, I don't 
know that most IMAP servers would allow you to delete it and recreate it that 
easily.  Someone that's more of an expert than me would have to speak up as to 
just how inefficient deleting and expunging all of the messages in a folder.  
When I've done it by displaying all the messages on one page, it doesn't seem to 
take that long (though I'm using Cyrus, a pretty efficient IMAP server, and I 
never have deleted folders larger than say, several hundred messages--no 
thousands for me).  I imagine the whole process doesn't take more than a few 
IMAP connections.
