To clarify my last message to Robert -- what I suggested would work if the
users can authenticate on both mail servers (which is our situation).

If it isn't, then you can use some other method to determine the maildrop.
There are examples in the whitepaper on scaling of using LDAP to determine a
user's mail store; you should be able to change that to use any other system
tool that can determine for you a user's maildrop.
