However, if someone logs in through a 'wrong' domain name, *e's outgoing
mail would also have the wrong outgoing domain on it, wouldn't it?

Most of them will only be using IMP. The very few that actually log in to
the server, and know how to use pine/mail, can do that themselves (their .rc
files are already setup to include the proper domain, although again, they can
change that - again, genericstable might solve that problem)
