Change in Preference Database

I've been trying out the IMP 2.3 code recently (runs great, BTW) and I noticed 
that the preferences database has been changed so that the "UID" field, which 
is only the username(i.e. epierce), has replaced the "user" field, which is a 
full email address (i.e. epierce@usf.edu).  Is there a reason for this change?  
I currently have IMP available to everyone on campus and their may be some 
namespace conflicts if the UID field stays the way it is. 
  I know I can easily change the UID field to be a full email address myself, I 
just wanted to see if there was any special reason for the change.
