Server size recommendations?

I'm planning on IMPlementing IMP for our campus. We have about 500 mail
users who run desktop IMAP clients and who would use IMP as a remote-access
mailer.

I'd like to run IMP on an x86 machine running Linux or FreeBSD to keep costs
down. Can someone recommend a processor size and RAM quanitity?

Our mail is served off of an Ultra 450 running sendmail and U-Wash IMAPD.
We'd be using mod_SSL and Apache. I'll probably use MySQL, because I'm
familliar with it, but if Postgres is a better solution, I'm happy to use it
for the back-end.

Thanks for the info,
Sam Rowe

That's the url it tries to go to? Something is configured very strangely,
then...

There's no phone field in the standard problem.php3... maybe you're using a
broken patch?

IMP only uses pop3 if you tell it to - are you sure things are configured
correctly?

In local.inc, you can modify session lifetime and the likelihood of old
sessions being garbage collected.

Not with IMP 2.2.

Tweak php4's session lifetime/garbage collection settings.
