The preference system uses the login name as the key.  If there
are two 'cliff' users (meaning they type 'cliff' in the Username:
field), then there will be a conflict between them (or, more
precisely, they'll share the same preference values).

I can add a 'realm' field to their preferences schema.  Would
that solve your problem (i.e. do you use multiple realms)?
