A far shot, but would you try and recompile everything with openssl 0.9.6a
 instead of 0.9.6b?

I have a slightly different problem on Solaris 8 (SPARC) that makes me
think that the latest openssl, or a combination of same with the latest
 mod_ssl is fatally flawed.

apache 1.3.20+mod_ssl-2.8.4-1.3.20+openssl-0.9.6b does not work; the
SSL/https portion, that is. So I went back to 1.3.19, but interesting
enough, I had to go back to openssl-0.9.6a as well. A httpd (apache 1.3.19,
mod_ssl-2.8.3-1.3.19) compiled with openssl-0.9.6b continues to give
me browser errors about invalid server signature. And that after
creating new custom certificates a number of times ...
