[imp] Authentication Problem: log appears to be muddled

Chuck,

First off let me thank you for taking the time to help me out. I appreciate
it very much.

I went and got the latest version of imap-2000c and am currently running
that. I'm still getting pretty much the same problem though. Now the
maillog reports:

Aug 1 18:34:06 web1 imapd[9119]: imap service init from 127.0.0.1
Aug 1 18:34:09 web1 imapd[9119]: AUTHENTICATE LOGIN failure host=web1
[127.0.0.1]
Aug 1 18:34:15 web1 last message repeated 2 times
Aug 1 18:34:15 web1 imapd[9119]: Logout user=??? host=web1 [127.0.0.1]
Aug 1 18:37:10 web1 imapd[9124]: imap service init from 65.5.42.198
Aug 1 18:37:10 web1 imapd[9124]: Login user=jasonc host=[207.201.104.90]
Aug 1 18:41:00 web1 imapd[9124]: Logout user=jasonc host=[207.201.104.90]

The first entries are when I tried to login using imp. The successful
entries are when I logged in using a remote Eudora client. I had previously
tried to use the horde demo server and I was able to successfully login.
Now it appears that the demo site is down though.

If I could login from the demo site, that would probably mean that a
configuration was messed up somewhere in my imp install. Any idea where
that might be?

Thanks for your help,

Jason

PS.
Don't know if it really tells anything but the php error log gives the
following error when I try to login:
[01-Aug-2001 18:34:15] PHP Warning: Retrying LOGIN authentication after
AUTHENTICATE LOGIN failed (errflg=1) in Unknown on line 0

What do you think is broken in this log?
