not a valid PostgreSQL link resource in db.pgsql

Warning: 4 is not a valid PostgreSQL link resource in
/www/horde/imp/lib/db.pgsql on line 82

I get the error (warning really) on trying to add an
entry to the Contacts.
I fill in the Address, Nickname & Fullname, hit the
'Add Contact' button and get the above warning.
The contact is added correctly to the database table.

In the 'Preferences' part:
on entering the preferences window, the edit boxes for
the signature and the full name are filled with
similar messages:

and
<br><b>Warning</b>:  6 is not a valid PostgreSQL link
resource in <b>/www/horde/imp/lib/db.pgsql</b> on line
<b>113</b><br>
respectively.
When attempting to Save Preferences (with appropriate
text in the edit boxes), the following appears at the
top of the window

Warning: 4 is not a valid PostgreSQL link resource in
/www/horde/imp/lib/db.pgsql on line 222

Warning: Cannot add header information - headers
already sent by (output started at
/www/horde/imp/lib/db.pgsql:222) in
/www/horde/imp/templates/doctype.inc on line 8

An error occured; your signature was not updated.

Using: (on a pretty much standard RedHat7.1 linux box)

all as downloaded from the horde website.
(had similar problems using the standard RH7.1 rpm's
of php, postgres etc)

The client is IE5 on Win98
