remember expanded folders

I would like to replace or extend the 'expand folders' pref so that the user 
always sees the folders expanded like he had it the last time.

An example: The user comes to folder view, no folders expanded. He expands 
folder1 but leaves folder2 collapsed. He changes to another view comes back and 
still has folder1 expanded and folder2 collapsed.

Any thoughts?
