Which gcc/glibc to use?

Hi,

Can someone with a successful installation (ie no bugs at all) please let me 
know what they used to compile PHP version of gcc and glibc would be 
appreciated. 

I think the source of my problems is a memory allocation error, which may be 
due to a faulty compiler.

I use: 
gcc 2.96-85 (from RH 7.1 build)
glibc glibc-2.2.4-19 (from RH 7.1 build)
