Ack, please read what I write, and refer to the discussion - there was a big 
fuss about this, and that time, too, lots of people wrote posts whose only 
point was "make sure I don't have to have it this way" - which is the _point_ 
of it being a preference. You can lock it, or let your users set it. It is by 
definition optional.
