personally, i'd build from source.

here's a fairly detailed set of instructions which includes all the tools 
you'll need to run these wonderful tools we call Horde & IMP. (:

this doesn't include getting the latest php/pear, but that's all extremely 
well covered in the archived lists at www.horde.org and it's all in the 
README's too.
