speed issues

I've been running the the latest cvs versions of IMP, HORDE, TURBA,
GOLLEM and KRONOLITH for the last 5 weeks. The one thing that I have
had problems with has been speed. Compared to 2.2 branch 3.0 seemed
slow, but then.....

I tested against then horde.org demo site. Testing against the demo
site found that on average tasks on my server take 2X the amount of time
to complete as compared to the demo site. Mail box refreshes take 6
seconds on my IMP install while they take only 3 seconds on the demo
site. The 50% speed difference is pretty consistent for all IMP tasks,
whether I am logging in to IMP or reading mail the demo site is almost
always much faster. In both cases, I am connecting to the same IMAP
server and looking at the same mailboxes.

MY system config is: E250 with 1 GB ram with dual 350's dedicated to
doing nothing but testing IMP. A bit over kill, but it's our spare.... I
am running Apache 1.3.9, PHP 4.0.6, MYSQL 2.23.37, CVS versions of IMP
etc.

So, my question is: Have you-all done anything to tweak the performance
of the demo site, ie PHP accelerator, funky apache tweaks?

Thanks

David
