Not with the way it works now.
But what I already have on my todo list is that the language the user
selected on the login page will be respected throughout the session if
didn't select another language in his preferences.

I just tried it out to see if I can fix it but I can't reproduce the
behaviour you described. Once I removed the search addressbook in my
personal preferences (imp sets the preference emtpy in the sql backend) imp
falls back to the standard search source I put in prefs.php. Isn't this
what you expected to happen?

You have no addressbook sources defined in Turba. Try to access Turba
directly to see if there are more messages. For now I suppressed these
warnings but you won't have any addressbooks in your list to select from.

Do you by chance have any folders with forward slashes in their names?

Yeah, that is the behaviour I desired... Wonder why we have different
behaviour off the program... Would it have made any different if the personal
pref was configured prior to the system pref was configured (didn't think
so...)??

I just commited a code change to the HEAD branch which implements a
slightly differen language selection scheme.
The language selected in the login screen is now kept during the browser
session if the user didn't specify a language in the preferences and there
is no default value in prefs.php (actually that is if the preference
backend doesn't return a value for the preferred language).

It makes a difference if you didn't logout after changing the preference
default value, because all preferences are being cached during a session.
