Cannot login to IMP after setting prefs to sql

I recently installed Horde 2.0, Imp 3.0 and turba 1.0 on Red Hat 7.2 with
Apache
1.3.22-2 and PHP 4.1.2

After installing and configuring the basics, everything worked. I went back
and
modified horde.php to use the prefs table. After enabling this, I can no
longer
log in. I do not get any errors and it does not log anything in the
horde.log

if I set prefs back to none, and comment out all the database array info, it
works fine.

The other odd thing is that it creates several (approx 8) sessions in the
tmp dir.

Any ideas as to what is causing this?
