I recommend that you rebuild wu-imapd from source, configuring it based
on the instructions in docs/CONFIG. On version 4.7c, example 2 is probably
what you want (if you're keeping your mail folders in a mail/ subdirectory).
It won't work so well if you have mail folders in places other than the
mail/ (or equivalent) subdir.
