[imp] Server Process dies with no error.

Hello,

IMP is working fairly well in a new installation for 
a couple of weeks now. However my users are complaining
that they get lots of instances of not being able to
load various pages and are presented with a page that 
instructs them to refresh (reload) the page. Often
times when they refresh, the page will load and it 
does evenually work. I have discovered what I think
is a related problem in the konqueror browser which
happens with about 80% frequency. For a test user
I login to imp and my inbox is opened. I press the
compose button. I enter an address and test text,
and immediately when I press the send message button
I get the following error.

The process for the https://mail.math.unm.edu protocol died unexpectedly.

I do not get any server system error messages that I have been
able to find associated with this event. The only error message
is in the browser window. For this reason I am stumped as to where
to even look for the problem. Any advice would be appreciated. 
My guess is that the PHP code is crashing serverside somewhere.

I should say again, that many times, including this particularlly
bad test case, the page can load and the function can complete.
So sending mail does work. Netscape seems to be almost immune
to getting the above error upon clicking the send message button,
but occasionally fails to load other pages.
