You'd have to look at your modified login code -- files like
horde/imp/login.php, horde/imp/templates/login/login.inc, and 
horde/imp/lib/IMP.php.  The login.php file should 
be examining a variable called $reason and displaying a message based on
it as needed.  If it isn't doing so, then that is the problem.

If it is doing so, then either sessions are not working (what does the
/horde/test.php file say about this?) or $reason isn't getting set right
in the above set of files.

In the release version of horde, it appears to be in horde/config/registry.php
as:

'cookie_domain' => $GLOBALS['HTTP_SERVER_VARS']['SERVER_NAME'],
'cookie_path' => '/horde',

On in the CVS HEAD version is it instead in conf.php/horde.php.  Sorry about
that mistake.
