[imp] How to force plain text IMAP authentication?

This is a multi-part message in MIME format.

Otherwise IMP works fine, but if user has a crypted password defined on
IMAP server, IMP tries to authenticate using that instead of plain text
authentication. Only plain text passwords are updated, so usually
authentication against crypted passwords fails with errors:

Horde:
HORDE [error] [imp] FAILED LOGIN xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx to
server:143[imap/notls] as user [on line 270 of
"/var/www/html/horde/imp/lib/IMP.php"]

PHP:
PHP Warning: Retrying CRAM-MD5 authentication after invalid user or
password (errflg=3D1) in Unknown on line 0
PHP Warning: Can not authenticate to IMAP server: invalid user or
password (errflg=3D2) in Unknown on line 0

So, is there a way to force IMP to use plain text authentication?
Horde/IMP is installed on Redhat 7.3 using RPMs as described in
ftp://ftp.horde.org/pub/RPMS/noarch/rh7/horde-latest.README

Versions:
apache-1.3.23-14
php-4.1.2-7.3.4
php-imap-4.1.2-7
imp-3.1-2
horde-2.1-3

Thanks,
Jani Kaarlela
