We are running phpa, we've found it pretty useful (that and our upgrade
from Solaris 2.6 to 2.8 made a big difference).

Does anyone have data on the benefits gained from php-accelerator vs Zend?

We're using OEM boxes built on the ax1105 platform (single processor
500mhz IIe, w/ 2gb of RAM, 1gb swap). Apache 1.3.27, Solaris 8, mod_ssl,
PHP 4.2.3. The machines are handling their own SSL connections, we
don't have accelerator cards, or one of those switches that does SSL
translation. We've got web authentication software that user kerb4 (which
is how we then authenticate to our IMAP servers). 51% of IMAP users are
using IMP to access their accounts.
Aspell seems to cause at least some of our performance spikes, but we
can't turn it off.
