[imp] Redhat 7.3 and IMP login error *** BUT FOR RH8

I have a similar problem guys.
On my previous installation (RH 7.3) it only worked with the PHP rpms that
horde "provide". Even if the test.php says that it is "compatible" it won't
work.

Now RH 8 comes with PHP 4.2.2.8-XXX and the same problem again. with imap
auth I'm not able to auth against another server.

what are the differences in between the php RPMS that horde group provide
and the ones that are out there? and if there are improvements, it is not
suppose that those should be included on the SOURCE distributions or shared
so we do not have major versions differences?

Thanks for your time and answers, also for the chance to express my
thoughts...
