[imp] Unsolveable problem with "Folders"

Hi list,

Following problem with CVS imp (version below):

For all users but one (out of about 10), clicking on the yellow
"Folders" choice above left in the Imp main menu hangs the whole
machine.

It didn't use to (a couple of weeks ago?) do so.

Symptoms: httpd takes 99+% of processor power, Ethereal shows repeated
requests to imapd. On attempting to stop the connection (browser
"stop"), situation continues for around 10 minutes, then I can use the
browser again. Violent disk activity the whole time as if memory is
being used up, but top and 'sar -r 1 5' (I'm a Unix person) show *no*
increase in swap or RAM use. Marked increase in processor temperature
(ACPI, cooling air temperature). Forced exit of browser alleviates the
whole thing, symptoms persist for about 10 minutes.

Anybody any idea why?

Software: Apache 1.3.27, PHP4.3, pear CVS, UW Imap
imap-2002a.DEV.SNAP-0212051126 (localhost:143 = tls with
imap/novalidate-cert), MySQL 3.23.52. Openldap 2.1.10, Berkeley BDB
4.1.24, pam_ldap 148, RH 7.2++++ kernel 2.4.19 ACPI, gcc 3.0.4.

Horde: 3.0-cvs
IMP: 4.0-cvs, ldap authorization through imapd pam_ldap

MySQL database seems to be configured o.k. (console access as "root",
horde and phpMyAdmin 2.3.3pl1)

http://localhost/horde/test.php gives no unknown problems
Everything else in Imp works fine.
Imp IMAP link works fine: imap/novalidate-cert
pam_ldap works fine for imap (Evolution 1.2.1 with imap o.k.).
Choice of language and color has no influence.

Browsers: Mozilla 1.1b, Opera 6.0, Netscape 4.7, Galeon 0.11.3

Changing software doesn't help: PHP 4.3 <=> 4.2.3 Openldap 2.1.10 <=>
2.1.8 imapd *same version* with and without pam authorization.

Best,

Tony
