[imp] Balancing Question

Thanks Andy and Jon. To elaborate, I would like to know about currently
logged in users to IMP. We have experienced in the past a situation
where our server's resources just up and dissapear when lots of people
are logged in and we are trying to isolate why and what program is
causing it. None of the other HORDE apps do resource consumption as
heavily as IMP I would assume? As for web server hits per second -
Apache 1.3.27 should be able to handle the types of loads we are talking
about without complaining too much...I hope anyway since it is the
server like 90% of the world uses :-)
Does the IMAPProxy from HORDE significantly reduce this overhead?
BTW - It isn't our IMAP server I really hope - it is a quaint little 2
million dollar SUN box with more power than some mainframes I have seen
- that server is designed and does handle close to 50,000 accounts
pretty well (obviously not all at the same time) <grins>.
Thoughts?
Thanks so much!!!
Derek

If you can explain what you mean by "simultaneous users", I should be
able to tell you... :) Here are some possible interpretations:
1. Number of unique users currently "logged in" to IMP.
2. Number of web server hits per second.
3. Number of IMAP-using (not GIFs) hits per second.
Now, I think Jon is right in saying that your IMAP server will probably
run out of steam before your IMP box. I've got 2 Dell 2650s with about
the same config as your box. The load average rarely gets over 0.5, and
most of the time they run at 0.1. Now the IMAP server on the other
hand... :)
